Divorce mediation allows spouses to resolve disputed issues privately instead of placing each decision before a judge. At Olsen Law Office, we guide Mandeville families through the process with practical legal solutions tailored to their circumstances.
With a neutral third party facilitating discussions, mediation can address parenting arrangements, financial support, property division, and other issues that must be resolved before completing a divorce. We provide clear legal guidance with compassion throughout the process.
Attorney Lindsey S. Olsen brings a strong foundation to this work. She served as a student practitioner in the Family Law Section of the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.

Legal Services for Mandeville Clients
Divorce mediation is one part of our broader legal work for individuals and families. We approach disputes involving children, finances, and property with attention to each client’s legal and practical needs.
Across these services, we develop practical solutions that reflect each client’s circumstances rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
When Divorce Mediation May Be Appropriate
Mediation isn’t required in every St. Tammany Parish divorce, nor is it appropriate for every family. Spouses often choose voluntary mediation to discuss possible terms outside the courtroom. Depending on the dispute, it can address parenting arrangements, child support, spousal support, and the division of community property.
Time and cost vary based on the complexity of the disputed issues, the financial or parenting information needed, and whether the spouses reach an agreement. An uncontested divorce may involve fewer unresolved matters, while other cases require more preparation before productive discussions can begin.
Court Involvement in Custody Mediation
The local court may recommend mediation when parents disagree about custody or support. Under Louisiana Revised Statute 9:332, a court may order mediation in a custody or visitation proceeding and pause further determinations for up to 30 days while mediation takes place.
Family law matters involving Mandeville residents are handled by the Family Court divisions of the 22nd Judicial District Court, Division K and Division L. During a Hearing Officer Conference, the Hearing Officer may determine that a mediator or parenting coordinator should be appointed. A parenting coordinator helps parents implement and manage parenting arrangements within the authority provided by the court.
A court-appointed mediator must be approved by the court and satisfy the qualifications established under Louisiana Revised Statute 9:334. This type of appointment doesn’t apply to every divorce. The process depends on the issues before the court and the directions entered in the individual case.
Family Violence & Mediation Orders
Louisiana law limits court-ordered mediation when family violence is involved. Under Louisiana Revised Statute 9:363, a spouse or parent who satisfies the court that they or their children have experienced family violence by the other spouse or parent can’t be ordered to participate in mediation for divorce, custody, visitation, child support, alimony, or property proceedings.
Temporary Restraining Orders and Protective Orders may become relevant when safety concerns are present. We consider the circumstances surrounding the dispute before discussing a practical legal path forward.
